The Thrive Approach

Are you concerned about your child’s social and emotional well- being?
Social-emotional skills are essential for connecting with others. They help us manage our emotions, build healthy relationships, and feel empathy.
Some examples of social-emotional skills in use are:
- Recognising if someone is sad, and asking if they’re ok
- Expressing yourself with your friends in a different way than with your parents
- Understanding your thoughts and feelings, and being able to relate to others
As a licensed Thrive practitioner, my training has given me knowledge and understanding of the underpinning theory and skills that are needed to help children and young people who may be failing to thrive in school because of unmet social and emotional needs.
My role in working with children and young people is to help build their resilience and enhance emotional wellbeing leading to improved learning and enjoyment of school.
Thrive is based on a very simple premise: children and young people learn best when they feel happier and their emotional needs are acknowledged and addressed.
What is Involved?
Initial meeting with parent/ carer
As well as finding out the reasons for concern, getting to know about a child’s strengths and interests is the first crucial step.
Meeting the child/young person
At my first meeting with the child/young person, I will already know lots about their strengths and interests. This will form the basis of a creative activity to designed to build self-esteem, trust and the basis of a positive working relationship.
Diagnostic Assessment
Licensed Thrive practitioners have access to Thrive Online which is a comprehensive assessment and profiling tool used to identify gaps in areas of social and emotional development in a child or young person.
I would carry out the Thrive assessment with the parent or carer.
Action Plan
Thrive Online generates a diagnostic profile which is used by the Thrive practitioner to generate a personalised action plan. The plan will identify key social and emotional areas for development together with the strategies and activities that will be used in the programme.
As well as mapping out a structured programme of intervention, through a process of re-profiling, Thrive Online provides a monitoring tool to measure progress and the effectiveness of the action plan over time.
Intervention sessions normally last between 6 and 8 weeks.
